Before he started his own business he was Medical Director of Ciba - Geigy and later of Novartis Pharma GmbH, Austria from 1987 - 2004. After receiving his medical education at the University of Vienna, Austria he became a senior lecturer in pharmacology at the medical faculties of the University of Saarland, Germany and now in Vienna, Austria. Furthermore, he was engaged in internal medicine at the University of Saarland and later in clinical pharmacology at Eli Lilly, Indianapolis, Indiana and Altana, Konstanz, Germany.
